Loons on Squam Lake

Science Center Lower Pond Bird Feeder Cam

Welcome to Squam Lakes Natural Science Center’s live bird feeder camera. These feeders are located near our lower pond, next to the Water Matters Pavilion here in Holderness, New Hampshire.

The feeders were installed in late November 2017. The birds have three choices of food. The yellow feeder is filled with Nijer seed, which finches like. The blue feeder is filled with black oil sunflower seed, which nearly everything eats, and on the left is a suet feeder. Each day we see visits from Black-capped Chickadees (including one with a shiny silver leg band), Tufted Titmice, White-breasted Nuthatches, and a Downy Woodpecker. Most of the birds go to the suet first, take a few bites, and then grab a seed from the blue feeder. We expect to see other birds such as American Goldfinches, Northern Cardinal, Hairy Woodpeckers, and maybe even some Pine Siskins.
